I used to be a big fan of movies. A couple of years back, movies were my preferred method of combatting winter blues. In the winter months, I would bundle myself up and go see movies because it gave me a reason to get out of the house and do something.
In the past year, I somehow fell off the movie thing. I think is probably because I started hanging out more with friends. I finally got myself to a movie theatre this weekend to go see the Disney movie, Coco.
Coco was a delight to watch through and through. It was a cacophony of color and culture that told a wonderful story about a boy’s quest to understand his family’s heritage. Centered around the Mexican Dia de Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, Coco was a fun and serious at the same time. There were moments of intense laughter, nail-biting moments and some tears shed.
When I was done watching Coco, I realized it was one of those movies that I would be glad to see again and again. It is easy to get loset within the lush landscape of this movie, even though it is a created world of animations. I particularly liked the fashion of the characters. I told someone this morning that I want my next year’s Halloween costume to be based on one of the characters. I don’t even dress up for Halloween normally.
My only gripe with the movie was having to sit through a short movie based on the movie Frozen before the feature. While I understand that everyone loves Frozen, I don’t have kids so I am not of the Frozen demographic. The short was cute and all. I was just surprised to see it playing before my movie.
